“Yes, a great performance by the lads. They are a quality side. We used the conditions better. We used the longer side of the ground and used the wind accordingly. Obviously, tougher conditions to bat on. Devon and Allen batted ultra-aggressive and broke the chase in our favour. We needed such a performance. Allen, to play the way he did, is amazing. The wicket was 10 days old. We have been playing here since the start of this tri-series. In an used surface, to bat the way he did, was excellent to see.”
“I think the pitch was a bit slower. We will do much better in the next match. We will have to discuss a lot of things as we have a day off now. We have made a lot of mistakes. Definitely, a bad day. We weren’t at our best. Credits to Black Caps for the way they played.”
“Yeah, I haven’t tried this one yet. Will have it sometime later. Bowling in the powerplay, with just two fielders out, is a difficult job and that too against world-class batters. Luckily a couple of shots went straight into the fielders.”
A comprehensive win for New Zealand as they outclassed Pakistan in all three departments. They defeated Pakistan by nine wickets. The spinners set the game for the Kiwis, and the 117-run opening wicket stand between Conway (49*) and Allen (62) made sure they will cruise to an easy win.
Finally a wicket for Pakistan. Finn Allen departs for 62. Allen comes down the pitch and misses the shot completely as he tries to go for another biggie. Once he misses, Rizwan has a simple job as he whips the bails off.
Finn Allen smokes it down the ground for a six. It is just formality now. New Zealand need 15 from seven overs.
A 100 runs stand comes up between Finn Allen (52*) and Devon Conway (37*). New Zealand need 30 runs from 55 balls. (NZ: 101/0)
Sloppy from Dahani. Conway sits down on one knee and gets the bottom edge on the reverse sweep and Rizwan behind the stumps, and so did Dahani at the boundary.
This six brings up the fifty for Finn Allen, his second in the T20Is. Allen comes down and hits it over the deep mid-wicket region for a maximum. A terrific shot. New Zealand need 36 runs to win the match. (NZ: 95/0)
It is looking one-way traffic now. Conway reverse-swept Shadab for a boundary. New Zealand need 50 runs from 66 balls. (NZ: 81/0)
Adam Milne had a bowl at Hagley Oval before play today and has been passed fit to play. He will now be available for selection for upcoming matches. (New Zealand Cricket Media)
Rizwan has a slight injury on his finger. Hence, Mohammed Haris kept for one over, but now Rizwan is back in the park.
Meaty blow from Allen. Fuller length ball outside off, Allen comes down and hits this over the roof to the mid-wicket region for a 108-meter hit. That was some blow from Allen. (NZ: 68/0)
End of the powerplay. New Zealand are in firm control of this chase. They are 57-0 after 6 overs. Conway and Allen have batted well. Though the latter hasn’t timed them well, had enough power on the shots to clear the fielders. Pakistan needs to do things quickly.
Another six for Finn Allen. Length delivery on the middle stump and gets the treatment. Twelve came from Dahani’s second over. New Zealand need 85 runs from 90 balls. (NZ: 46/0)
Great pick up short by Finn Allen. Full-length angling into the pads and Finn dispatches it over the deep square leg fence for a six. (NZ: 40/0)
Length delivery on the leg stump from Wasim Jr. Allen comes down the track and hammers it with a swing through the line. Was enough power in the shot to clear Babar at mid-off. New Zealand need 97 runs from 96 balls. (NZ: 34/0)
Short ball but didn’t rise up. It was on the leg stump line. Conway swivels and pulls it but loses a hand off the bat. New Zealand need 112 runs from 105 balls. (NZ: 19/0)
First six of the match. Length delivery on the middle stump line by Dahani and Allen charges down the track and swings through the line, straight back to the bowler’s head for a maximum. New Zealand need 119 runs from 108 balls. (NZ: 12/0)
Naseem Shah will start the proceedings for Pakistan. New Zealand openers Finn Allen and Devon Conway are out in the middle. New Zealand need 131 runs to win the match. (NZ: 0/0)
