Selections for Pakistan’s official entry to the 93rd Academy Awards are underway, and the committee for 2020 has finally been announced.
Inviting Pakistani filmmakers to submit their films for Oscar consideration by 20th October 2020, the selection will be represented in the ‘International Feature Film Award’ category.
Music maestro and Strings‘ vocalist Faisal Kapadia along with Hassan Sheheryar Yasin (popularly known as HSY) and Mehwish Hayat are on this year’s list.
“Humbled and proud to be part of the Oscar committee for 2020,” HSY posted.
“The committee will be chaired by two-time Academy Award and Emmy winning documentary filmmaker Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy and includes film director Asad-ul-Haq, actor Mehwish Hayat and musician Faisal Kapadia.”

Taking to Instagram, the fashion designer took to announce the news with her fans and followers.
“Humbled and proud to be part of the Oscar committee for 2020,” HSY posted.

Punjab Nahi Jaungi star Mehwish too, confirmed the news via social media:
“I am honoured to be part of the Oscar Selection Committee for this year alongside our own two time Oscar winner Sharmeen Obaid Chinoy,” the Tamgha-e- Imtiaz holder posted, adding that she’s looking forward to seeing the nominated films they choose together, put forward.
“At least this is one way that we can be putting a positive image of our country and highlighting our talent on the world stage, InshaAllah!”
Director Asad-ul-Haq, Filmmakers Maheen Zia and Hamza Bangash, Scriptwriter Bee Gul, Actor Syed Muhd Ahmed and filmmaker Asim Abbasi are also on the list.
This marks the eighth consecutive submission by the Pakistani Academy Selection Committee having previously submitted Zinda Bhaag in 2013, Dukhtar in 2014, MOOR in 2015, Mah-e-Mir in 2016, Saawan in 2017, Cake in 2018 and Lal Kabootar in 2019 to represent the best of Pakistani cinema for award consideration in the ‘International Feature Film’ category.
