Manchester United is in turmoil after an 0-2 start to the Premier League season and it could see Cristiano Ronaldo finally get his way after all.

Although not everything may be as it seems according to Ronaldo, who hit out at alleged misinformation from the media on Wednesday.

Multiple reports from over in England claimed Ronaldo could be allowed to leave Old Trafford as early as this month, but only if he can find a club to buy him.

That is proving quite difficult at the moment though, with The Telegraph reporting that United “have not been presented with any offers” for the Portuguese superstar.

It has United growing increasingly concerned that Ronaldo may be holding out in the hope the team tears up the final year of his contract, allowing him to become a free agent.

The Red Devils are adamant that will not happen according to The Telegraph while manager Erik Ten Hag is also still said to want to try keep Ronaldo given his goal-scoring threat.

But The Telegraph reported there is “dismay” at Ronaldo’s behaviour since returning to the squad after being granted time away from the United camp for personal reasons.

It has the Premier League giants resigned to the fact they may be better off without the drama the 37-year-old’s presence is causing as they look to turn around a poor start to the season.

Ronaldo wrote in a reply to an Instagram post on Wednesday that “the media is telling lies” while claiming everyone will “know the truth” after he sits down for an interview “in a couple weeks”.

“I have a notebook and in the last few months of the 100 news I made, only 5 were right,” he added.

“Imagine how it is. Stick with that tip.”

Sky Sports News reported on Tuesday that Atletico Madrid and Chelsea could still be potential landing spots for Ronaldo, although senior figures at both clubs are not convinced.

Kaveh Solhekol, Sky Sports News’ chief reporter, is not buying claims there is no genuine interest out there in the league for Ronaldo.

“The stance appears to be softening just a little bit,” he wrote.

“If a deal that can be done suits all parties and Ten Hag decides that’s what he wants to do, he may be allowed to leave Man Utd.

“As far as the player himself is concerned he wants to leave, he wants to play in the Champions League. That is what’s most important to him. There’s also a suggestion that for personal reasons it would suit him more if he could leave Man Utd.

“There has been lots of talk that Man United haven’t had any official offers for him. There have been no official bids. Are we really living in a world where nobody wants Cristiano Ronaldo? I don’t think so.

“I still think there’s interest out there and if United changed their position and decided they’d allow him to leave I still expect clubs like Chelsea also Atletico Madrid to be interested in signing him – if he agreed to take a big pay cut.

“There are still senior figures at those two clubs who are not convinced they should be signing someone like Ronaldo. But he’s one of the most famous people in the world. It’s not just about what he can do on the pitch, it’s what he can do for a club’s profile and commercial revenue off the pitch as well.”

For all the disruption the Ronaldo saga is causing, Gary Neville warned on Monday Night Football that United could be left with a glaring void if they part ways with him too soon.

“The problem they have now is if they lose him, there’s nothing left in terms of the goal-scoring part of the pitch,” Neville said.

‘’I genuinely think if they don’t bring players in or if they bring poor players in and he leaves, I genuinely think they can finish in the bottom half of the table. I think that is a bottom-half-of-the-table team. That is a massive statement that may look stupid at the end of the season.

“They are demoralised and shot to pieces, it is really bad in there. They have gone back to default.”

United is already trying to make moves according to The Telegraph, although those are more concentrated in the midfield than up front.

The Red Devils are said to be considering a £50 million ($A86m) move for Real Madrid midfielder Casemiro, with Ten Hag keen on another option for a holding midfielder.

It comes as United’s proposed deal to sign Adrien Rabiot threatens to fall apart, having failed to agree to personal terms with the France international.
